Child Centered education

Marie Anne Roland>>>
Educators in Mauritius have to change their mindset and think more in terms of the child. there are so many ways of innovating at school level. we can talk about introducing different types of cultures nowadays in our schools(e.g.: culture of reading, culture of eating properly...)

Let us think and be creative.

When we talk about the culture of reading,we as educators should first of all believe in the importance of reading for pleasure: have a book corner in our class and create as much as possible. By creating the right atmosphere for our students to feel free to go towards the book cornor and to read at any time. We should also find ways to encourage our students to feel at ease and free to come infront of the class to share their feelings about the book or story they have read.

  2. how about culture of computer literacy..children know more than us of this virtual world. does the environment of the pupils at school caters for that...I think every school should have an interactive whiteboard in their classrooms. this is a very powerful tool in child centered education, i don't know if you ever come across it.

  3. Teaching n learning of a concept for e.g in maths, can be more effective than using the black board DEFINITELY! I insist on using ICT because a single ICT room cannt afford the technological needs nowadays.
They really know more than me.
sometimes i feel lost when trying to cater for their needs

  7. i also think that school should provide more creative expriences to pupils(ICT can be further exploited for this field). they rarely have the opportunity to express feelings & needs. i mean presenting what he/she has leaarned in clss in an expository way. all they receive is academic&cognitive skills drilled in them. maybe we should think of lightening the syllabus..or to extend the number of school days and hours too
